Divorce after decades on the rise in America
The number of couples who are deciding to end their marriage after 20-plus years of being together is on the rise, according to Fox 23 News Albany.
The news source reported that this type of divorce can take quite a toll on the couple who is involved, and any children that they may have, due to the fact that for many people it comes as a shock.
Though studies have been released that highlight the growing trend, anecdotal evidence may be appropriate for finding a reason.
"I don't think there's any doubt that it's happening with greater frequency, and I think for some interesting reasons," Clinical Psychologist Dr. Rudy Nydgegger told Fox 23. "For example, people are living longer, staying healthy longer than they have before and they get into retirement age and realize they're not ready to sit on the front porch with a shawl on their shoulders and a rug on their laps to watch the world go by."
According to the news source, whatever the reason may be, this type of divorce is a prevailing trend in the industry, and the normal method of handling this split could be extremely painful for those who are involved.
Couples who are looking to split after being together for an extended period of time may want to pursue a divorce alternative, as this can help to limit the amount of stress and anxiety that comes when a marriage comes to an end.
Divorce mediation helps a couple end their marriage outside of the courtroom in an expedited process, as this allows the former partners to move on in quicker fashion and limits the amount of contention that may exist between both parties when everything comes to an end.
